“Love and Hip-Hop” and “The Real World”

Love and Hip Hop and The Real world are television reality dramas. Love and Hip could be considered as a soap opera and The Real World is a MTV series, which was one of the first reality shows on MTV. In Love and Hip Hop  the woman of hip hop artist display their struggle and statuses when it comes to relationships and trying to find their career, whether it’s in making a clothing line or also becoming a famous singer or rapper. In the reality drama The Real World, there are seven strangers picked to live in a house, where they will have their lives videotaped for three months long. There is some positive things about these two shows and there are also some bad things

When Love and Hip Hop aired on VH1 it became very popular to young adults. It was talked about all through the radio and social networks. Most people couldn’t wait until the next episode. The show focus on the woman of hip hop artist, which is very interesting because the woman are overlooked and unknown to the hip-hop life because the men are private with whom they are dating. Famous couples such as; Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats never want to display information about their relationship and in the beginning they will deny the fact that they were in a relationship in the first place. So, the simple fact that the show came out with the woman coming into the picture that are willing to come up front with details about their life and relationships with a famous hip-hop artist was very shocking and had everyone so psyched to view the show. I feel like everyone has a favorite hip-hop artist or singer that they adore whether one think they are not that popular or not, one never knows how others feel about that star. When one has a favorite artist they adore, one will do anything to get into their lives and this show gave fans the opportunity to fulfill that. The audience can expect some exciting drama to happen and some can relate to the woman of the show that’s going through relationship problems. The show also reveals how woman go about finding a career even through struggle. People who want to be an artist, designer, etc. can view how these woman fight to get their dream career. There is a set-up that let us know what’s going to happen next, which keeps the audience aware. Furthermore, the cast members give their opinions on different situations.

The Real World was also very interesting to watch. Yes, there are seven people living in a household together, but they are very different people, whom people that view the show can relate to. There are black and white people on the show, gays, lesbians, people with eating disorders, aids, sex addicts, alcoholics etc. This was one show that displayed the gay and lesbian culture which is not displayed as much throughout television. Everyone seems so different but within those three months, some find that they are not so different. On one show there was a very religious man and a gay man and the religious man refuse to interact or be friends with the gay man. However, throughout the time spent on the show the religious man learned to cope with the homosexual sexual preference and he accepted the fact that he had a gay friend. This show help people understand that no matter where you go or where you are, there are going to be different people all around you where you must try to understand one another and do not judge. There are people that have not found themselves or whom are going through situations that cast members go through and they watch to show as an outlet and look at other people situations to help their own. This show also has a confession room where cast members can tell the audience how they feel about one another and different situations, which is a way to connect to the audience.

These two shows may be interesting but at times a lot of things are taken overboard. On the show love and hip hop sometimes it seems like the shows are scripted. Sometimes the previews trick the audience into thinking something major is going to happen in the next show, so we can stay tuned. However, when one watches the next episode it’s nothing really major going on or what one expected. Some of the hip-hop artists do not treat the woman of the show how they should be treated. For example, on Hip-Hop Atlanta Frankie J does not treat his wife the way she should be treated. He cheats on her and led her on to thinking he will change, but he does not. Actions of the hip-hop artist can upset the audience and they can lose fans. When it comes to The Real World, this show displays too much. This show displays when the cast members drink excessively and when they get arrested. They also show cast members bringing all different kinds of sex partners inside the house to have sex with them. They show the actual part of any two under the blankets moving in a way to let the audience know that they are having sex. The show isn’t for children, but some parents can’t be around their child during their every move, which means one never knows who is watching the show and they’re displaying too much bad behavior and actions.

Reality Television dramas are very interesting to the audience because most people can relate to the situations of what’s being displayed on television. It’s a way for people to connect with other people situations, which can possibly help one, get through their own problems. However, reality television dramas have their negative approach to the audiences. There are some things that should not be displayed on television because you never know who is watching the show.
